Medical Mentors Program
The Medical Mentors Program is a program run through Making Doctors, where underclassmen are paired with an upperclassman student who have compatible personalities and similar interests. After they are paired, the mentor and mentee will be able to participate in special events which are going to increase the underclassman's awareness of the medical field, help them with academic choices, and socialize with people of similar interests and ambitions.
Goals of the program:
a) To allow Freshmen or Sophomores to quickly become acclimated to the pre-medical program at the University of Delaware
b) Give Juniors and Seniors the chance to share their knowledge about the University and help their mentees in their pre-medical career
c) Provide Freshmen and Sophomores with an opportunity to meet new people interested in the medical fields and build a support group that will last through their 4 years of school and beyond
d) To give Freshmen and Sophomores a partner who is able to motivate them to keep their grades high and give them extra help when needed.
e) Mentees benefit from their mentors experience with both academics and the application process
Benefits for Members:
Mentors: Mentors will be provided with a unique opportunity to share their knowledge about the University and its Undergraduate Pre-Med program with freshman. They will learn both communication and leadership skills as well as the ability to build a relationship in a professional-personal setting (which they will experience throughout their medical career). Mentors will also be able to participate in special events with their mentees which are supplemental to the general Making Doctors event schedule. For material benefits, Mentors are entitled to receive honors cords at graduation with the gold bands of high honors.
Mentees: Mentees will have the amazing opportunity work one on one with an upperclassmen who is then able to guide them through the rigors of the first year of undergraduate Pre-Med. Mentees will have the chance to learn from their Mentors and pick up tips and tricks that their Mentors have obtained. They will also be given the opportunity to socialize with people who have similar interests and passions.
